Duo Nabbed For Firing Gun From Vehicle In Fairfield County, Police Say

Two Fairfield County men have been arrested for allegedly firing gunshots out of a car while driving around the region.

John Blackwell, age 31, and Alston Powell, age 53, both of Bridgeport, were arrested by Fairfield Police after police responded to 911 calls of shots fired in the area of Fairfield Woods Road and Stillson Road.

According to Lt. Edward Weihe, of the Fairfield Police, the men were seen putting their arms out the open windows of the vehicle and firing a pistol in the area. 

At least four gunshots were fire, he added.

The vehicle then sped off at a high rate of speed and turned eastbound onto Fairfield Woods Road. 

Additional shots were allegedly fired in that area, police said.

A Fairfield PD Special Officer was working in the area and also reported hearing several shots fired. 

Immediately after hearing the shots, the officer observed the vehicle traveling eastbound on Fairfield Woods Road and began to follow it.

The vehicle was stopped by patrol officers and both men were taken into custody.

Blackwell was charged with:

  • Reckless endangerment
  • Illegal discharge of a firearm
  • Discharge of a firearm from a public highway
  • Illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol 
  • Breach of peace

His bond was set at $50,000.

Powell was charged with:

  • Reckless endangerment
  • Criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Illegal discharge of a firearm
  • Discharge of a firearm from a public highway
  • Illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol
  • Breach of peace 
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit.

His bond was also set at $50,000.
